Epic story about the pursuit of the legendary Phoenix so that once captured a queen can drink its blood for eternal life. Set in a fantasy-esque version of Japan near the beginning of the common era, the film blends parts of history with magic and unreality whilst also including excessive violence, broad comedy and cartoon animation. At one point Astro Boy turns up for a shot whilst elsewhere a blind man faces eight cavalry soldiers by chopping off the heads of each of their horses….
