A hideously ugly witch casts spells on her victims which turns their insides into snakes and worms.
Hitting you like a brick to the face, this simple story of a conman with eyes on a family’s hotel business becomes a horrifying fever dream of ghosts and gore: the gruesome visage of a vengeful spirit seeks her unseen murderer9 a supernatural virus fills its victims with squirming, slithering things which burst and ooze from their mouths and flesh; while a witch offers equally grisly and unsettling cures.
Like a distant cousin of Fulci’s disturbing dream logic, Jen-Chieh Chang disturbs and disorients with a messy mélange of atrocities in this slimy specimen of Taiwanese Horror.
Yes!! This was extremely difficult to find in a Bluray RIP. Thanks so much NLZ!
I originally came across this bizarre curiosity when I ran a video store in the late 80s. During those days, video peddlers traveled from state to state in a van or truck and stopped at mom & pop video stores looking to buy or swap VHS titles. They always seem to have a few grindhouse gems they had exchanged and there was a good chance they wouldn’t even know how rare or sought after the film was. You could trade them a couple of VHS rental copies of “Back to the Future Part 86” that had already been rented a hundred times and they were ecstatic. THE DEVIL had a pretty salacious box and grabbed my attention right away. It delivers organic shocks, tons of real snakes of all shapes and sizes popping out of mouths and bursting from stomachs. For some next level laughs, track down the english dubbed version. The voices and dialogue are incredibly funny and add an alternative dimension to the film.
