In 1950s Australia, young Celia (Rebecca Smart) is growing up with a sense of isolation and mistrust of the world that surrounds her. Her mother, Pat (Mary-Anne Fahey), and father, Ray (Nicholas Eadie), won’t let her play with the kids next door because their parents are communists. Then her pet bunny is taken away because of rabbit overpopulation. And, more traumatizing yet, when her grandmother dies, she’s the one to discover the corpse. To cope, she retreats into elaborate fantasies.
Always loved the little Australian actress Rebecca Smart she was also in ‘Coca Cola Kid’ … as an older actress she went on to be in locally made TV drama series in Australia. In my personal opinion her best appearances were as a child actress due to her authenticity and not overly manufactured style (typically Aussie naturalness) Early to Mid 80’s Australian movies are a whole LEAGUE of their own .. nowhere else in the world has the same style. It’s jerky , imperfect, tainted with production impurities and mistakes – and MAGICALLY it’s exactly what makes these films absolute TREASURES. Thanks for sharing it.
