Viewers who might think that the apparently whimsically titled Cat Murkil and the Silks is a family picture are grossly misinformed. The title character, played by David Kyle, is the sociopathic leader of the Silks, a white LA street gang. The Silks are in a constant state of war against their Chicano rivals. Kyle’s explosive street life is placed in context with his behavior within his own family unit. The film was produced by the old Pine-Thomas outfit, which in the 1940s specialized in the far less bloody exploits of aviators, oil-well diggers and such. Though unrated, Cat Murkil and the Silks is extremely violent in spots.
