Franck Poupart is a slightly neurotic door-to-door salesman in a sinister part of Paris’ suburbs. He meets Mona, a teenager, who’s been made a prostitute by her own aunt. Franck would like to change his life and also save Mona from her aunt. Murder is the only solution he finds to achieve his goal… A very gloomy movie, exuding dispair and uneasiness, with pathetic characters.
This movie is remarkably bleak but fantastic. RIP Patrick Deware and Marie Tritignant–both gone too soon. This is their movie, for sure.
Roger that ! A shining acting light of his generation. If you take in Dewaere’s body of work, you can’t help being massively struck by what a huge loss to cinema his early exit was. It may be that too many downbeat roles like this really exacted a toll. Some may not be able to just leave it on the set, clear the slate and then move on.
