Siddhartha is the story of a young Brahmin and his search for a meaningful way of life. His journey takes him through periods of harsh asceticism, sensual pleasures, material wealth, self-revulsion and eventually to the oneness and harmony that he had been seeking. The story is based on the best-selling novel by German Nobel Prize winner Hermann Hesse.
Wow, that was quick: mentioned yesterday, posted today ! Thanks very much.
I hope Nykvist’s contribution comes across well here, as I don’t hold out a lot of hope for a BR edition. Some films really benefit from the difference. For example: “McCabe and Mr.s Miller” looks like hell on tv showings, like it was shot through a dirty drinking glass. A good condition film print of it, projected properly, looks great. (But film projection in cinemas has all but disappeared.) DVD editions still had very disappointing visual quality. But it pretty much came alive again on Blu-Ray. Another great example was Malick’s “Days of Heaven”, which looked amazing on the original prints, but with diminishing results over later presentations.
