Dr. Robert Morgan is the only survivor of a devastating world-wide plague due to a mysterious immunity he acquired to the bacterium while working in Central America years ago. He is all alone now… or so it seems. As night falls, plague victims begin to leave their graves, part of a hellish undead army that”s thirsting for blood…his!”

Followed in time by at least TWO remakes, maybe not even counting the Chuck Heston one, the Will Smith another-vanity-project one possibly the worst ? (But that one did have Alice Braga, in the minor Plus column.) Was this a blueprint for George Romero, then countless later followers and imitators ? Possibly. Richard “original Twilight Zone” Matheson provided the source material. And Vincent Price was reliably effective here, despite a meager budget.
IMDB seems to have confirmed the Romero connection, by Romero’s own admission. IMDB also mentions a few different cuts or editions that have been released. Hopefully this is the most complete one (running time and BR format suggests that it is), but the commentary by Richard Matheson on one of those editions is the extra audio track that may have been of the most interest.
