“Filming the breast implant operation was fundamental for Gustavo Bolívar Moreno, the writer, scriptwriter and director of the film. “I always said that realism meant operating on the real girl. If I hadn’t been able to do that, I wouldn’t have made the film”. Despite the fact that the book, written in 2006, already has at least five television versions, Bolívar always felt that none of them did justice to the original text.”Television always forces you to change some things and I felt that we needed a stronger version, closer to the reality I had described in the book”. To achieve that realism he was clear that he had to show the process of the operation, so he undertook a rather particular casting. “I couldn’t hire an actress and tell her to have a breast operation, so I told my surgeon friends to help me find a pretty girl, hopefully with acting experience, who wanted to have the operation. Alan González is one of the most important plastic surgeons in the country, he has more than 10 years of experience and practices in Bogotá and Cali, where he performs about 150 breast implant operations a year. Isabel Cristina came to him without knowing that in addition to new breasts she would leave his office with the role that would change her life, although Bolívar had to wait almost a year, until she was of age, to be able to film the operation.”
