Hsiao and his family move into a big apartment which is surprisingly cheap. When they get settled, strange things start to happen. In the 50s, a bar waitress, Lucy, lived with her boyfriend, Tim, in the same apartment. Tim was a US sailor and he had to leave Hong Kong after the holiday. He abandoned Lucy after she was pregnant. Out of rage, Lucy committed suicide and killed her baby boy too. She swore to kill Tim after death. Hsiao’s wife and daughter have been possessed by Lucy and her son and Lucy wants to kill Hsiao on his birthday…
A 500% improvement on the original. Hsiao, the male protagonist from the first installment, moves his wife and daughter into a low rent house filled with ghosts and living memories of an ugly past.
This is the set-up for one of the most ridiculous and entertaining possession flicks ever made in Hong Kong. The freaky, bloody, slimy climax recalled aspects of “Seeding of a Ghost”, although that is not the only film this references.
We get pieces of “The Exorcist”, “Exorcist II – The Heretic”, “The Thing”, “The Entity”, and half a dozen others.
Highlight include a bloody stairwell miscarriage, and a werewolf woman raping and killing a fat man in the back of a meat truck.
The pacing is zippy and the non-stop plot surprises keep everything at a very entertaining pitch. An added bonus is the presence of a ghost-chasing Hare Krishna and a melodious Hare Krishna chant which plays during the movie and, in an inspired choice, over the end credits. Don’t expect a hardcore horror opus, but do expect ferocious cinematic insanity with an unhealthy dollop of sexuality.
