The first film in Yasauharu’s quadrilogy of RAPE, RAPE 13TH HOUR, ASSAULT JACK THE RIPPER and RAPING! This is amazing cinema, erotic and brutal, sharp and incisive. After a woman is raped, her sexuality and deviant tendencies are awakened as she pursues her rapist to his ultimate conclusion. Extremely well shot and directed, the film has a fetid air of menace and repressed sexuality. Some of the rape scenes are more sensual than brutal and Hasebe’s skill with suggestive imagery is powerful and inspiring. A good place to start if you’re game enough to enter this fascinating, maligned genre.
