I know exactly what you’re saying. Fry’s Electronics went belly-up, unfortunately, but there are still occasional good sale prices to be found, particularly on the 8TB and under sizes. Costco hasn’t had anything lately, but I did find something at Best Buy, on their last good sale.
I prefer a WD Elements Desktop (or Transcend Storejet) but haven’t made up my mind yet. A WD 12 TB goes for around 280 bucks right now.
